Yes, we've got you covered. Sichuan food is famous for its spice, but it's also about flavor layers beyond heat. We can adjust every dish to your spice tolerance — from "mild" to "authentically spicy." For hotpot, restaurants offer "half and half" pots (一半一半) with one spicy and one mild broth. Your guide will teach you the magic of numbing pepper (花椒) which adds flavor without pure heat. Most visitors who thought they couldn't handle Sichuan food end up loving it.
The Chengdu Panda Base is a legitimate conservation and research institution, not a petting zoo. Pandas bred here have been successfully reintroduced to the wild. The center: contributes to breeding programs, conducts vital research, educates the public, and has helped bring pandas from "endangered" to "vulnerable." We support ethical wildlife tourism and can also arrange visits to rehabilitation centers if you have specific concerns.
You can visit Bifengxia Panda Base (2 hours away) which has a more mountainous setting and sometimes allows viewing of younger pandas. There's also the option of the Dujiangyan Panda Center which occasionally offers volunteer programs. We can adjust Day 1 to include these alternatives if pandas are your main priority.
Absolutely. The face-changing show is spectacular, but not for everyone. If you'd rather have more free time, skip the opera, or replace it with something else (a cooking class, more market time, etc.), just let us know when booking. We're flexible.
Very. The city center is quite flat and walkable. The main tourist areas (Jinli, Kuanzhai Alley, Renmin Park) are all within a few kilometers of each other. We use metro and taxis for longer distances. The city is also very bike-friendly if you want to cycle.
