  • Afternoon: Meet your guide at your hotel. Brief orientation walk in the city center.
  • 5:00 PM: Walk to the South Gate area for sunset views over the ancient walls.
  • 7:00 PM: Welcome dinner in the Muslim Quarter. Your guide explains the Hui Muslim community and Xi'an's role as a Silk Road hub.

A full day with the Terracotta Warriors, but also exploring the Qin Dynasty's other achievements and the tomb's unfinished mysteries.

  • 7:30 AM: Early departure to beat crowds.
  • 8:00 - 11:00 AM: Terracotta Warriors Museum with your historian guide. Go beyond the standard tour:
    • The political context: why did Qin Shi Huang build this?
    • Archaeological controversies and ongoing discoveries
    • The craftsmen: were they slaves or skilled artisans?
    • Theories about the unopened tomb mound
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch in Lintong District.
  • 2:00 PM: Visit the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum viewing platform (the large tomb mound) and learn about the ambitious scope of his afterlife ambitions.
  • 4:00 PM: Return to city.
  • 7:00 PM: Evening at the Da Ci'en Temple area — the Big Wild Goose Pagoda illuminated at night.
3

Tang Dynasty Grandeur

Today is dedicated to the Tang Dynasty — Xi'an's golden age when the city was the world's largest metropolis and a global cultural capital.

  • 8:30 AM: Visit the Tang Dynasty West Market ruins — the original global trade hub. Your guide explains archaeological discoveries and the bustling commerce that once filled this area.
  • 10:30 AM: Shaanxi History Museum — Tang Dynasty galleries. Your guide highlights masterworks and explains the cultural achievements of this period: poetry, painting, music, dance.
  • 12:30 PM: Lunch at a Tang Dynasty-themed restaurant featuring period dishes and music.
  • 2:30 PM: Visit Daxing Curved Temple — an active Buddhist temple less visited by tourists, where your guide explains Tang Dynasty Buddhism.
  • 5:00 PM: Walk through the Qujiang District, seeing modern Xi'an blend with ancient Tang sites.
  • 7:30 PM: Optional: attend the "The Song of Everlasting Sorrow" Tang Dynasty music and dance show (additional cost).
4

Famen Temple & Rural Life

An all-day excursion to Famen Temple and a rural village. This is where you'll see "real" China — outside the tourist areas.

  • 8:00 AM: Drive to Famen Temple (1.5 hours). This temple houses one of Buddhism's most sacred relics: the finger bone of Buddha Sakyamuni.
  • 9:30 - 11:30 AM: Explore the temple complex, including the massive golden pagoda built to house the relic. Your guide explains the relic's journey from India through Central Asia to China and its political significance.
  • 12:30 PM: Lunch at a local restaurant in the county town.
  • 2:00 PM: Visit a rural village outside the tourist areas. You'll see:
    • Traditional courtyard homes
    • Local crafts: paper-making, noodle production
    • Aging villagers who remember life before the economic boom
    • The contrast between ancient ways and modern changes
  • 4:30 PM: Return to Xi'an.
  • 7:00 PM: Farewell dinner at De Fa Chang, Xi'an's most famous noodle restaurant.
5

City Walls & Departure

Your final morning on the ancient walls and a leisurely exploration of the city center.

The 3-day tour covers Xi'an's essential highlights efficiently. This 5-day journey goes deeper: Famen Temple (a full day trip), rural village experiences, more time at each site, and connections with local communities. It's for travelers who want to understand Xi'an, not just see it. The guide's expertise is more academic, and we have more flexibility to explore topics that interest you.

Yes. This is not a staged "cultural show" — these are actual villages where people live. We visit homes, meet craftspeople, and see daily life. The experience can be humbling: some families have modern conveniences, others live more traditionally. Our guide facilitates respectful interactions and helps bridge any cultural gaps.

The pace is moderate. We walk 3-5 km per day, including uneven surfaces at temples and rural areas. The rural day involves the most walking on rustic paths. Participants should be comfortable with stairs and standing. The tour is not suitable for those with significant mobility limitations.
